DC3 Harleston Centre Project
In DC3 Harleston we have reached a point where we believe that we can serve, support and be a part of our community more effectively by providing a community centre for the town. We envisage that this building would add to facilities that already exist, as well as providing a meeting place for the church.
What has happened so far?
We have set up a planning group to begin exploring the Harleston Centre project. We wish to progress in partnership with our community and our desire is to:
- Consult with voluntary groups in the town to discover what positive things are already happening and find out where there is need for further provision
- Work with, and consult with, the schools and other churches
- Engage with the statutory authorities
Finance, partners and the future
Once we have begun to form a more detailed picture of what needs the Harleston Centre is likely to meet, we will then move the project on by:
- Beginning to fundraise by holding events and seeking grants. (We have recently put resources into appointing a fundraiser for a few hours per month with the specific task of beginning to research sources of funding)
- Seeking partners from the community who would wish to journey with us
- Beginning the search for a suitable site
- Beginning the planning process
What will the Harleston Centre look like?
We have no clear plans yet as to what the final Harleston Centre will be like, but we would like it to meet the following criteria:
- Be multi-functional: able to accommodate a wide range of activities and groups including sports. Refreshment and leisure areas would be a key aspect of the building
- Incorporate ecological technologies: energy is becoming more expensive and we care about God’s creation
- Be within walking distance of key residential areas, but also have adequate car parking
How can I be involved?
Through the coming months we will be looking for community-minded people who would be willing to journey with us in:
- Support, expertise, fundraising and finance
If you would like to support this venture, or have further questions, please Contact Us or e-mail the Harleston Centre Planning Group (centreworkgroup@dc3.org.uk). Thank you.
