The Mosaic Centre
A few years ago DC3 Harleston reached a point where we believed that we could serve, support and be a part of our community more effectively by providing a community centre for the town. We envisaged that this building would add to facilities that already exist, as well as providing a meeting place for the church.
Around the same time, back in October 2011, Harleston Primary School were looking to develop a new sports hall. Gradually the dream took shape that we could embark on a joint venture, and build a centre which would be available for everyone to use. The idea of a ‘mosaic’ emerged as a way of expressing the coming together of lots of groups in our community.
The Mosaic Centre Management Group was formed in May 2013. Helen Adshead is the Chair and Project Manager, and the other members are Roger Walsh (Headteacher of the Primary School), Bert Herrington (Chair of Governors to the Primary School), Graham Blake (Leader of DC3) and Adrian Roy (member of DC3). Helen Adshead is also a member of DC3, but her involvement with this project began when she was the Cluster Business Manager for the Harleston group of schools.
This team has been working hard to make our joint dream a reality, and we can now go public with our progress. The plan is to build a centre on the Primary School site. The Primary School and DC3 will both have usage agreements and will be on the board of trustees for ‘The Mosaic Centre’, which will own the proposed building.
Other potential users, such as local sports groups, are also enthusiastic about this project. The concept drawings were completed in March 2013, and can be seen via www.mosaiccentre.co.uk.or www.youtube.com/watch?v=_QVSdl-Pqnk . Further information can also be found there. For a little taste, this is one of the pictures of the front of the building:
